Grampian Food Forum Innovation Awards serve up success for local businesses

Businesses across Scotland’s north east are celebrating after winning at the region’s most prestigious food and drink awards: The Grampian Food Forum Innovation Awards.Organised by Grampian Food Forum, the awards celebrate excellence and innovation in food and drink in Aberdeenshire, Aberdeen City and Moray.  Winners were announced on 24 March at the Mercure Aberdeen Ardoe House Hotel and Spa at a gala dinner.The awards, which are in their 26th year, awarded businesses in ten categories including Best New Retail Product, Best New Foodservice Product, the Grampian Food & Drink Entrepreneur 2016 and the Best Young Business.From The Good Granola Company based in Aberdeen and small Fraserburgh drinks producer Summerhouse Drinks, to established family businesses like Mackie’s of Scotland and Moray-based Assoicated seafoods, the awards showcased the diversity and strength of food and drink in the region.Sarah Mackie, Scottish Procurement Director for Brakes, led the judging panel, which included Michael Whiteford, Buying Director at ALDI and food blogger Hilary Sturzaker.Sarah Mackie said:“The Awards are a great platform for rewarding and celebrating innovation in the food and drink sector and we are delighted to see existing companies driving innovation with new products as well as an encouraging number of new local businesses starting up and others evolving.”A record number of businesses entered the Grampian Food Forum Innovation Awards this year.  64 food and drink products were submitted for this year’s awards with 39 businesses entering (12 for the first time).  29 businesses were shortlisted with ten organisations recognised on the night.The full list of winners are:Associated Seafoods Ltd, Barra Bronzes, The Bay Fish & Chips, Peter Bruce at Entier Ltd, Dean’s, The Good Granola Company, Joseph Robertson (Aberdeen) Ltd., Mackie’s of Scotland, six°north brewery and Summerhouse Drinks Ltd.ESS Support Services Worldwide is title sponsor for the 2016 Awards and also supporting this year are; Aberdeenshire Council, Aberdeen City Council, Aston Scott & Inventive Step, AVC Media, Highlands & Islands Enterprise, Johnston Carmichael, Keenan Recycling Ltd, Maclay, Murray & Spens (MMS), Mackie’s of Scotland, Mercure Ardoe House Hotel, Rowett Institute of Nutrition and Health, Scotland Food & Drink, Scottish Enterprise, Skills Development Scotland, The Moray Council, The Press and Journal and Think Local.ENDS.For media enquiries, interviews or images, please contact Martha Bryce at Taste Communications:martha@tastecommunications.co.ukTel. 0131 225 7205 / 07905 761 525
